Equity, Anti-Bias & Neuroaffirming Practices In Early Learning Settings

Our Newest Workshop Series
4.5 Hours of Professional Learning

There is a dominant cultural belief that neurodiverse children need to be ‘fixed.’ This deeply entrenched belief has cast a long shadow in the lives of neurodiverse children and their families. Imagine the cultural shift for neurodiverse families if the ‘need to conform’ was eliminated within early learning settings. Can we visualize how true neurodiversity acceptance would change how children see themselves—to be seen as whole people and not a puzzle to be solved?

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) are not just buzzwords, they are crucial concepts for us all to understand. We are all surrounded by bias, it is deeply entrenched into our culture, families, and workplaces. Often our unconscious bias is the deep-seated attitudes people hold subconsciously about those around them. The good news is that when we highlight these issues, workplace culture can change and we remove barriers to inclusion while increasing equity. By understanding and embracing DEI, we can all play a part in creating a more inclusive and equitable society.

In this workshop, we talk about issues connected to systemic bias, unconscious bias, racism, privilege, and ableism in our culture. We will highlight how ableism profoundly impacts our neurodiverse community for children of all ages. We will review the international charters of the human rights of children and disabled people. The information covered will help to cultivate learning spaces where everyone feels a sense of belonging – no matter their disability or culture.
